Who’s Who in ‘The Mother’? Meet the A-List Cast Joining Jennifer Lopez in Her Viral Netflix Action Thriller

Jennifer Lopez is officially back in her action era, and the world is watching! Her latest Netflix hit, The Mother, has fans glued to their screens as they watch the “Waiting for Tonight” singer transform into a deadly assassin coming out of hiding to save the daughter she gave up years ago.

While J.Lo’s “typecast-breaking” performance is sparking serious online buzz, social media is also blowing up with one major question: “Where have I seen that actor before?”

From “Snow-filled mountains to sunny locales,” director Niki Caro (of Mulan and Whale Rider fame) has assembled a heavy-hitting ensemble that looks very familiar. If you’ve been scratching your head while watching the Mother and her daughter Zoe (played by breakout star Lucy Paez) fight for survival, we’ve got you covered.

Here is the star-studded cast of The Mother and their most iconic previous roles.

Joseph Fiennes (Adrian Lovell)

Playing the terrifying Adrian Lovell, one of the Mother’s primary targets, is Joseph Fiennes. If he makes your skin crawl, it’s probably because you know him as the infamous Commander Fred Waterford from The Handmaid’s Tale. Before he was haunting Gilead, Fiennes was an Oscar-season darling, starring as the titular poet in Shakespeare in Love.

Gael García Bernal (Hector Álvarez)

The other man in the Mother’s crosshairs is Hector Álvarez, played by the incredibly versatile Gael García Bernal. Fans might recognize his voice as the lovable Héctor in Pixar’s Coco, or perhaps you caught him as the lead in Marvel’s spooky special Werewolf by Night. He’s been a staple in cinema since his breakout in the Oscar-nominated Y tu mamá también.

Omari Hardwick (William Cruise)

Every assassin needs an ally, and for J.Lo, that’s William Cruise. He’s played by Omari Hardwick, who famously commanded the screen for six seasons as James “Ghost” St. Patrick on the hit series Power. More recently, he was seen taking on the undead in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

Lucy Paez (Zoe)

The emotional core of the film rests on the shoulders of newcomer Lucy Paez. Playing J.Lo’s daughter Zoe is only her fourth professional role! While she had a small part in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, The Mother is her official “star is born” moment, holding her own in intense scenes alongside a Hollywood legend.

Edie Falco & Paul Raci

The supporting cast is rounded out by true industry royalty. Emmy-winner Edie Falco—forever our Carmela Soprano from The Sopranos and the lead in Nurse Jackie—appears as a key ally. Meanwhile, Oscar nominee Paul Raci (Sound of Metal) continues his incredible “late-career bloom” as Jons.

Whether they are playing villains, allies, or long-lost family, this cast is proving that The Mother is much more than just a typical action flick—it’s a masterclass in star power.
