Jennifer Lopez has found her new groom!

After a week of high-stakes casting rumors and internet speculation, Transformers star Josh Duhamel is officially in talks to replace Armie Hammer in the upcoming Lionsgate romantic comedy, Shotgun Wedding.

The film, which features Lopez as both the leading lady and an executive producer via Nuyorican Productions, follows a couple whose destination wedding takes a terrifying turn when their entire party is taken hostage. It’s a “cold feet” story with a major action twist—and it seems Duhamel might be the one to help J.Lo save the day.

The casting shake-up comes on the heels of Armie Hammer’s abrupt exit from the project. According to a spokesperson for Lionsgate, Hammer “requested to step away” before production began in the wake of leaked social media messages involving allegations of sexual violence and cannibalism.

While Hammer called the claims “bulls—t,” he stated he could not “in good conscience” leave his children for months to film in the Dominican Republic while his family was under such scrutiny.

Enter Josh Duhamel. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the -year-old actor quickly became a frontrunner for the role, with J.Lo herself reportedly involved in the search for her new leading man.

Social media is already buzzing about the potential pairing, with many fans noting that Duhamel might actually be the better fit for the role. On X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, fans have pointed out that at , Duhamel is much closer in age to the -year-old Lopez than the -year-old Hammer was.

“Finally, a leading man who looks like he actually graduated high school in the same decade as J.Lo,” one fan joked.

Beyond the age gap, Duhamel brings some serious rom-com “bonafides” to the table. While Hammer was known for dramatic turns in Call Me By Your Name, Duhamel is a veteran of the genre, having charmed audiences in Life As We Know It, When In Rome, and the Nicholas Sparks favorite Safe Haven.

Combine that with his action experience from the Transformers franchise, and he seems uniquely qualified to handle both the romance and the hostage crisis of the script.

The film is set to be directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) with a script from Mark Hammer and Liz Meriwether (New Girl). If Duhamel officially signs on the dotted line, the production is expected to stay on track for its planned release schedule.

And for the trivia buffs out there: both Duhamel and Hammer have a secret connection to Veronica Mars. Hammer appeared in the original run of the cult classic, while Duhamel made a cameo in the Hulu revival.

With a cleaner image and a resume built for romantic leads, Duhamel’s arrival might just be the “something blue” this Shotgun Wedding needed to become a hit.
