When you’re Wonder Woman, a standard red carpet look simply won’t do. For her second-ever trip to the Academy Awards, Gal Gadot decided to trade her golden armor for something a little more “rock princess”—and PEOPLE has the exclusive inside look at how it all came together.

The -year-old actress turned heads at the Oscars in a custom Givenchy Haute Couture gown that was as much a feat of engineering as it was a fashion statement. Featuring a delicate black lace turtleneck top and a massive pink tulle skirt, the ensemble was the definition of modern royalty.

“We wanted to try something different and fun, so we went for a full couture ballskirt,” stylist Elizabeth Stewart tells PEOPLE. And when she says “full,” she means it. The skirt alone required a staggering meters of tulle, organza, and lace.

The craftsmanship was truly heroic, taking , hours to complete. Stewart describes the final result as a “modern, couture take on a classic theme.”

But the dress wasn’t the only thing breaking records. Gadot accessorized with the Tiffany & Co. “Clara” necklace, a breathtaking piece featuring over carats of diamonds. Valued at over two million dollars, the necklace took nearly two years to create and was finished just in time for the ceremony.

“It’s a necklace worthy of a superheroine,” Stewart jokes, noting that the star also donned Tiffany earrings and a ring to complete the sparkle.

To balance the high-fashion drama, Gadot’s beauty team kept things chic and punchy. Makeup artist Sabrina Bedrani, using Revlon products, opted for a “power lip” in a vibrant orange shade called So Lit. “With the top of the dress being black, I wanted to give her a pop of color,” Bedrani explains.

Hairstylist Mark Townsend rounded out the look with a classic French twist, using Dove Go Active Dry Conditioner to fight humidity and ensure a “rock princess” shine that lasted all night.

So, what does an A-lister do while , hours of fashion is being pinned onto her? She snacks, of course! Prep took place at the iconic Sunset Tower Hotel, where Gadot enjoyed lobster tacos and salad.

For dessert, the star indulged in cookies and strawberries while a playlist of pop and hip-hop set the high-energy mood for the room.

From the first stitch to the final diamond clasp, Gadot’s Oscar night was a masterclass in Hollywood glamour.
