Jennifer Lopez is looking back at her career with a bit of “what if.”

During a sit-down with Howard Stern on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, Oct. , the “On the Floor” singer revealed that she passed on a role that eventually became a cinematic powerhouse.

The movie in question? The erotic thriller Unfaithful, directed by Adrian Lyne. The role of Constance “Connie” Sumner ultimately went to Diane Lane, who earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance.

“Adrian Lyne offered me Unfaithful,” Lopez, , told Stern. However, she admitted she wasn’t sold on the project at first. “The script wasn’t good” initially, she explained, adding that Lyne “then made it great.”

When Stern, , asked if the missed opportunity is hard to live with, Lopez didn’t hold back.

“It’s funny. It haunts me,” she admitted with a laugh. “It haunts me a little bit, because it’s, like, the one that I turned down. It was just like, ‘Why did you turn down working with Adrian Lyne? What were you thinking?’”

Reflecting on her mindset two decades ago, the Hustlers star added, “I don’t know what was going on in my mind at the time. Who knows what was going on with me at the time?”

While Lane, now , lost the Oscar that year to Nicole Kidman, her performance remains a career-defining moment. Lopez, meanwhile, eventually found her way to a co-starring role with Richard Gere in ’s Shall We Dance?

But the career talk wasn’t the only thing sparking buzz on social media. Lopez also got incredibly vulnerable about her high-profile love life and her recent divorce from Ben Affleck, which was finalized in January.

When Stern asked if she felt she had ever “truly been loved,” Lopez took a long pause before replying, “No.”

“What I learned, it’s not that I’m not lovable—it’s that they’re not capable,” she explained. “They don’t have it in them. And they gave me what they had. They gave me all of it, every time. All the rings, all the things I could ever want… the houses, the rings, the marriage. All of it.”

The multi-hyphenate star confessed that a lack of self-love complicated her four marriages. However, she views her most recent split from Affleck as a turning point for her personal growth.

“When I got divorced this last time, it was the best thing that ever happened to me,” she told Stern, noting she enlisted a “religious coach,” therapists, and addiction experts to help her heal. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna fing figure this s out if it kills me.’”

The former couple remains on professional terms, with Affleck recently praising her performance in the new film Kiss of a Spider Woman, produced by his company, Artists Equity.

“She’s fabulous,” Affleck told E! News at the film’s New York City premiere, calling her work in the musical drama “the maximum level of difficulty for a performer.”
