Can They Fix It? Yes, They Can! Jennifer Lopez and Anthony Ramos Team Up for a Major ‘Bob the Builder’ Movie Reboot

The world’s favorite construction worker is getting a massive Hollywood glow-up.

A feature-length animated Bob the Builder movie is officially in development, and the casting is already sending social media into a frenzy. Hamilton and In the Heights star Anthony Ramos is set to voice the titular hero, while multi-hyphenate superstar Jennifer Lopez is jumping on board as a producer.

The news, first reported by Variety, has quickly gone viral as fans of the original British cartoon react to the unexpected—yet exciting—creative direction of the project.

The film is set to be a “Latinx-oriented” reimagining of the classic series. Instead of his usual neighborhood, the story will follow Roberto (better known as Bob) as he travels to Puerto Rico for a major construction project.

According to the studio, the film will see Bob taking on an “educational journey” while exploring the vibrant culture of the island. Screenwriter Felipe Vargas has been tapped to pen the script, ensuring the story stays true to its new roots.

Social media users were quick to weigh in on the “J.Lo x Bob” collaboration. “I did not have ‘Jennifer Lopez producing Bob the Builder’ on my bingo card, but I’m honestly here for it,” one fan joked on X (formerly Twitter).

On TikTok, nostalgic Millennials are already debating the most important detail: the animation style.

While the original show, which ran for seasons starting in , featured a rounder, claymation-style Bob, the CGI reboot was famously divisive. Fans are already pleading with the creators to return to the “classic” look that made the catchphrase “Can we fix it? Yes we can!” a global phenomenon.

The project is part of a massive new wave of Mattel-branded movies following the astronomical $. billion success of Barbie.

While Bob the Builder has been relatively quiet for the last five years, Mattel is clearly hoping that a mix of nostalgia and A-list talent will turn this into their next box office hit.

Ramos, who recently led Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, seems like the perfect fit for the optimistic builder. Combined with Lopez’s powerhouse production team at Nuyorican Productions, the film is aiming for a much bigger splash than recent family reboots like Clifford the Big Red Dog or Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.

Will Bob’s trip to Puerto Rico be the construction project of a lifetime? Only time will tell, but with this crew behind the scenes, the foundation looks solid.
