The “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” nostalgia is hitting an all-time high!
Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos are officially reuniting on screen for the first time in years. The duo, who famously played father and daughter in the cult classic biopic Selena, are joining forces for the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy, Office Romance.
The streaming giant confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter) with a post that sent fans into a total frenzy. In a nod to their legendary history, the announcement featured the pair recreating an iconic promotional image from their Selena days, proving that while decades have passed, their onscreen chemistry is timeless.
For fans of the film, which saw Lopez transform into the “Queen of Tejano” Selena Quintanilla, seeing Olmos return to play her father figure once again feels like a full-circle moment. In the original biopic, Olmos portrayed the firm but loving Abraham Quintanilla, a role that helped anchor Lopez’s breakout performance.
“I am officially sobbing,” one fan wrote on X shortly after the announcement. Another added, “Anything for Selenas! This is the reunion we actually needed in .”
Office Romance is already shaping up to be a heavy hitter for Netflix. The script comes from the brilliant mind of Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein and co-creator Joe Kelly. Goldstein will also star alongside Lopez in the film, which is being helmed by Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again director Ol Parker.
While many plot details are being kept under wraps, the story reportedly follows the blossoming love between a high-powered airline CEO (Lopez), who has a strict “no dating” policy at work, and a charming lawyer (Goldstein) she brought onto her team. Olmos is set to play Lopez’s father, bringing that familiar family dynamic back to the big screen.
This isn’t just a sentimental win for fans; it’s a tribute to the project that started it all. While Lopez had appeared in films like ’s My Family (which also featured Olmos), Selena was the catalyst that launched her into superstardom. It proved her magnetic stage presence and acting chops, laying the groundwork for the global icon she is today.
Lopez is no stranger to breaking records at Netflix. Her action flick The Mother previously dominated the charts with over million hours viewed. With the added “nostalgia factor” of an Olmos reunion, Office Romance is poised to be another massive hit for the streamer.
From the stage of the Astrodome to the halls of a corporate office, it’s clear that J.Lo and Edward James Olmos are still a winning team.
Would you like me to look up the projected release date for Office Romance on Netflix?
